Winter Recipe: Apple & Blackberry Crumble

  • 200g Plain Flour
  • 125g Butter
  • 100g Golden Caster Sugar (plus extra for sprinkling over the top)

Preheat the oven to 190 C/375 F/Gas 5. Sift Plain Flour into a mixing bowl and cut the butter into cubes and add to the flour. Rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips until the
mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Add the sugar and mix thoroughly. Meanwhile peel and core the apples and cut into chunks, add them to the an ovenproof baking dish along with the blackberries.

Add a good squeeze of lemon juice all over the apples and sprinkle the sugar over the top, the golden caster sugar gives the apples a lovely caramelised taste. Cover the fruit with the crumble mix and sprinkle a little sugar over the top to give a crunch.

Pop into the oven for around 20-25 mins until the crumble has a golden tinge. Serve with lashings of custard, ice-cream or double cream.
